The first week in August (just before we went away to Mallorca) Julia, Milly and I camped just outside Wimborne, in a place called Horton at the lovely Riverside Lakes campsite. We camped with our friend Lewis (who we first met on our cruise last year) and his daughters.
The camp site was brilliant. They mow a limited number of pitches in long meadow grass and all the pitches are well spaced out, make it much more pleasurable than campsites where you are all on top of each other. A number of pitches are grouped together around an open fire, so we spent most evenings chatting in front of an open fire with our nearest neighbours.
We arrived on the Monday and stayed till the Thursday.
On the Monday night we ate out at the Olive Branch in Wimborne and was joined by Julia’s friend Helen.
Tuesday we spent the day near or in Wimborne as we had to pick up Lewis’s daughter who joined us a day late. We had lunch at the Smugglers Inn in Osmington Mills and also went on the beach (although it was a little chilly and blowy).
Wednesday was a funny day as it rained a little and we tried to do all the touristy things round Bournemouth/Poole, but all the tourists were doing them, sowe ended up walking our dogs round Upton Country Park, following a route that took us out around Poole harbour.
And then on the Thursday, after packing up, we headed down to Sandbanks where I saw, for the first time a floating ice cream seller…
We had a great time.
